7. In the CAV the associations are Alaba (Álava), Babes (Bizkaia) and Senideak (Gipuzkoa), and in the CAV they work together. The family and friends of the members of the associations are located in the residences and day centers of the elderly. The members of the three associations met on 22 February and came to make the same diagnosis. According to the conclusions obtained, the management of the residences predominates the economic criteria and there is less and less interest in offering quality socio-health care. They point to the lack of personnel and equipment, poor nutrition and poor working conditions of workers.

They have drawn up a joint work plan. They consider it a priority to provide a definitive solution to the labor conflict in the residences of Gipuzkoa. The workers of this country have carried out more than 225 days of strike in the last 24 hours. On the other hand, they have announced that they will support the Department of Employment and Social Policies of the Basque Government, “after the counsellor announced that he is willing to take steps to improve the quality of services and eliminate lucrative business around them.”

Between 2016 and 2017, workers from Bizkaia homes went on a 378 day strike. Strikers demanded quality care for residents and that workers work in decent working conditions. To convey the message they got on the strike: if the workers are not working in adequate conditions, it is difficult for the residents to be well served. The association of family members of residences in Bizkaia, Babes, emerged on strike. The strikers welcomed the creation of the association, even believing that it pressured the employers and the Provincial Council and served to bring the realities of the sector and the residents to the table.
