March to highlight the "polluting reality of the incinerator" on Saturday
  • From Lasarte-Oria to the incinerator of Zubieta, the Anti-Incineration Movement has called a march for 29 April, starting at 11 hours, under the motto "Incinerator, contaminating air, water and soil", to highlight the "polluting reality" of this plant. Citizenship has been invited to participate this Tuesday in the hearing they have held on the portal of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa.

The following statement is made:

March to incinerator on 29 April

From Mugimenes contra la Incineration-Donostia Bizirik, Eguzki and Ekologistak Martxan we call on the public to take part in a walking march from Lasarte to the incinerator built in Zubieta on 29 April to require the authorities to stop the incinerator, to burn no more waste, neither in Zubieta, nor in Gara.

This year will be the third year of march from Lasarte. Last year's motto was "The incinerator -- what don't they tell us?" Since then, though those responsible and propagandists of the incinerator have continued to deny the reality, in recent months some inconvenient hidden truths have come to light. That is why the motto of this year's march will be "The incinerator polluting air, water and land". That is what is becoming more and more evident, that the incinerator is being polluted very clearly.

Here is the Arkaitzerreka stream that passes under the incinerator. Although the GHK, the owner of the plant, has repeatedly denied the contamination, it has finally opened a dossier to the company Ekondakin, the manager of the incinerator... for contamination of Arkaitzerreka.

According to studies carried out by the Dutch foundation ToxiWatch, the incinerator pollutes air, soil, water and plants with dioxin and other toxic substances. The GHK denies it, as usual, but the consortium itself has found contamination in the studies carried out by the IDOM and SGS companies within the Environmental Monitoring Programme to be submitted annually to the Government.

And, according to a technical report by the Ekopol University Teachers' Association, the incinerator twice exceeded the pollution ceiling by 2020.

As if that were not enough, the Infrastructure Minister, Arantxa Tapia, has recognised in Parliament that the incinerator does not meet all the requirements set by the Government.

That is the ugly picture we want to denounce with the march of 29 April.

The GHK and the Council have built, with denial and propaganda, always with public money, a wall to hide the polluting reality of the incinerator. But on this wall the cracks are getting more and more abundant. Help us make remarkable. Participates in the march of 29 April.
