Fallen ceilings, leaks, moisture... Denounce the conditions of UPV buildings
  • Part of the roof has recently fallen on the Ibaeta campus of the UPV/EHU and is not the first time. They denounce the "poor state" of the infrastructure, with numerous damaged leaks and heaters (see pictures at the end of the story). "They told us they had a budget to deal with the problems, but the deficiencies remain."

"We're cold, we're heating up later and shutting down earlier, and a researcher tells us that in many offices in one faculty and another, heaters are broken and turn on small electric heaters, illegal, potentially dangerous," says ARGIA Miren Aranguren, a UPV student and UIB member. "You are not guaranteed to be able to study and work comfortably," he complains.

The complaint has been transferred to the cloister and, although they were told that they had a budget to deal with the problems, "in general they have not been given a solution, the droppers have been around for years. And that's what's happened in the Magisterium School, the damp and dripping have ended up dropping a piece of ceiling, and then they have had to fix it, because they only deal with the extreme cases, the roofs and the fallen walls, but we don't rely too much on those repairs, they've done it from one day to another and they look like a patch, if the same thing happens..."

"The leaks have been going on for years, and that's what has happened in the Magisterium School, the dams and the leaks have ended up dropping a piece of ceiling, and then they have had to repair it."

The UIB considers that the UPV/EHU is increasingly seeking external funding and that the "investments of millions of euros" made by the public university with agreements with companies are aimed at satisfying the interests of companies (investments aimed at certain masters and degrees and social control), "interests in which the improvement of infrastructure and the conditions of students and workers is never included".

Fallen walls and water cubes

On the list of problems identified by the CPU, on the Leioa campus, they have leaks in the library and in the faculties of CSC and Fine Arts. On the campus of Ibaeta they have leaks in Chemistry, Law, HEFA and Magisterium. In the latter there was a partial fall of the ceiling, which has caused the recent fall of the HEFA and part of the ceiling of the Psychology faculty, as well as a section of the Engineering wall. In a chemistry lab, they have also highlighted that the smoke bell does not work, "essential to absorb and absorb, as it was believed to be insecure".
