Letter from Ernai to the Basque Political Prisoners
Young people are with you!
  • Dear friends: How have you started next winter? We, as you well know: work and work. Many of you are kidnapped before Ernai is born. Most of you don't know us directly and only a few of us have had the opportunity to meet you. All of you would have known about us in the press. Hundreds of miles separate us, cold bars or stained crystals of fingerprints. However, and despite the fact that we have not had the opportunity to meet many of you, we feel the responsibility, the confidence and the closeness enough to work and share with you and the Basque Political Prisoners, Exiles and Deportees.

Although many of us have not found ourselves on the road, we are on the same road and in the same direction. We knew that the path opened since the last debate would not be easy, as it has not been so far. In addition, after the last opposite judicial resolution, on the way we can find more and more stones and obstacles, but we will all face up to; encouragement for you and your supporters! We will continue to work, because we represent each obstacle more enthusiastically at work, and we will continue to move forcefully.

But our commitment goes beyond the strict rhythms that mark the everyday conjuncture. Our struggle goes beyond the joys and sorrows of this unequal journey. We dream of a Basque country free of prisoners, escapes and political deportees, and we will continue to put our grain of sand to achieve that horizon. It is clear to us that if we are ever free, we will be free in a village where there are no friends and companions among the bars. That is why we will not give up until we have in our hands the stage where you are all at home. To achieve this, we will extend to the four winds the need to start the journey. Along with your situation, the state of emergency and the criminal jail.

A vision of the world, values and a political project that we are fighting for unite us. All of them are stronger than the kilometers. And that's why we say Youth with you. For the young people are with you, because we are on the road you have embarked upon and because we are on the same horizon as you wanted. Because we will follow that path until we achieve Independence, Socialism and Feminism, and have at home all the political prisoners, exiled and deported.

Many of you would be members of the Youth Organization. Follow, Haika, Youth and Segi. Forty years of struggle have left us a sack of experiences and an incredible legacy. With the aim of collecting all this we have launched the dynamic ‘In the New Impulse Garaia Da!’; a present past, fighting for the present, to win the future. From village to village and from neighborhood to neighborhood, we are gathering militants from different generations and organizations, because besides knowing the way, it seems important to know each other. In addition to the different impulses being carried out in the peoples, we are also organising the Days of Impetus of the peoples. Also writing white books; some of you may have been asked to write some of your village books. With the experiences and experiences of all, each people will write their own history within the youth organization: anecdotes, feelings, struggles, debates, anger and joys… And in them, your presence will be indispensable. Because you started the road and you continue with us.

Flowers seem to flourish in spring, and this year a special flower will blossom. In relation to the 40th anniversary, we are organizing a giant Gazte Topagune. Do you remember Elorrio, Lezo, Kanbo, Etxarri? This year will also be special: Lemona. We will organize it in the giant Auzolan, because it will be the most special and beautiful of all editions and the program is very varied. Under the motto “The impulses of freedom to independence!”, besides being the meeting point of the different impulses, it will be the tool to continue working the way. You will also have your place in the Topagune, of course. We will feel with us in the assembly when you get your legs dirty with the mud, in the endless discussions of the debate tables, in giving between concerts and also when you have crossed the chills and concentrated forces in the acts. We're with you.

Another major challenge this year is to tackle precariousness and exploitation and to consolidate ourselves in this struggle. We started with a general analysis, we are working on the problem and the local alternatives and in February after the first national mobilisation we will organize marches throughout the Basque Country. Most of you and you have worked and fought for precariousness, this year we also want to accompany you on the street or in the village.

In a single letter there is not everything we mean, nor all love and solidarity. But we think that's how we feel a little closer, because we think we're closer. As you are committed, we are also assuming it, so we reaffirm ourselves in the commitment to ask for visits, to exchange letters, to work here and there…

We have often heard that young people are nowhere, that we are nowhere. But that is not the case, and we are also working on the road back home; we are still working because we dream of a horizon without Basque prisoners, escapes or deportees. At eye level we have the following quote to fight for it: 12 January in Bilbao and Baiona. It's time to fight and bring everyone home. That is why the young people will be there, we will fill the streets of Bilbao and Baiona with us because we want you and we need you. Because it is time for new impulses, but because all impulses are necessary to liberate the People in this struggle. That is why you and we will continue to work from here, because the struggle is worthwhile. Because we need you, because we love you, young people are with you.

He gets a hug full of combat force.

We want you!
