On 2 October it will be held in Ibarra under the motto Kilometroak, Irribarra and with the only school center of the town, the ikastola Uzturpe. Founded in the 1970s, the director of the center has underlined that it was a path filled with difficulties in the presentation of the festival. He has also mentioned the current difficulties: in the works of reform of the building of the ikastola to adapt it to the pedagogical project, the foundations were reached, by accident, and many students have had to move to the barracks for a year and a half. The outer space was left unmade and “unfortunately, the patio is not the ideal place to play, experiment or do sport, but also dangerous”. It is intended to allocate the money from the Kilometroak holiday to its conditioning.

The presentation also referred to the new holiday model. “The festivities of the ikastolas have always been a giant auzolan, squares of Euskera and Basque culture, initiatives of adhesion and solidarity with our project”, explain from Kilometroak Kultur Elkartea, emphasizing the transformation that the festival will live: “A more participative party, which gives more space to the claim, a bit larger”, among other things.

New model

“One of the main changes this year, besides consuming culture, will be experimenting, living, participating,” the organizers say. And it will be reflected in the four spaces they have prepared – this year the spaces will not be divided thematically or by age –: in the space “Creativity”, for example, it will be possible to work through workshops in crafts and bertsolarism, as well as to deepen the circus, dance and crafts. In the space “The City of Children”, following the philosophy of the pedagogue Francesco Tonucci, the children put themselves in the center and prepare, among other things, a “magical forest”, with stories, fantasy, imagination and adventure as protagonists. There will also be a game match between 20 ikastolas of Gipuzkoa and at noon, during the morning the youth will make a meal and a small concert with the dishes cooked by themselves. The spaces “The trajectory of Basque music” and “Gastronomy” will also offer the possibility of experimenting.

At 12:00 a.m., in all spaces, there will be a pause in the acts that are taking place at that time and they will sing together “Oria-txori”.

Three conferences

At 10:45 in the morning a reflection will be made through three talks. Jakoba Errekondo and Javi Rivero, the chef of the bar “Ama”, put themselves in the tertulia with the theme “Garden to gastronomy: keys to revolution”. Gorka Egia will guide the speaker “I am an ecologist, but…” to reflect on consumption habits. Nerea Mendizabal, finally, will address the topic “Family conflicts and anti-stress pills”.
