The news was published in June 2014: the City of Ziburu decided not to renew the agreement with ikastola Kaskarotenea. Conclusion: the ikastola would run out of land or building. However, some parents decided to maintain the project undertaken and continue in the building, unless another alternative was offered. The lawsuit Guy Poulou brought the case to court, and when the ikastola won the lawsuit, the litigation was directed to the Pau Court, where he pronounced in favour of Poulou.

Thus, in September 2014, the ikastola embarked on a road full of obstacles: to get rid of the building, the neighborhood cut off – they had to act with flashlights and candles –, imposed a fine of 100 euros for each day they were still there, threatened to send to the police…

On the other side of the coin, the Kaskarotenea received an avalanche of solidarity throughout Euskal Herria and a massive demonstration was held in Ziburu in November. The then president of the ikastola, Laida Mujika, explained: "In Ziburu we are not only ten families, all Euskal Herria is behind us."

In early 2015, teachers and students acquired a site in Seaska and started a new building. It was 15 children. The fruits of this struggle are obvious: the ikastola de Ziburu currently has 70 students. “At the end of the day, our ikastola has recovered a dignified and lasting solution thanks to the rigor and solidarity received from all of Euskal Herria,” they said in Kazeta.eus. Moreover, their relationship with the City Hall has improved considerably.

29 April, celebration

The ikastola will be ten years old on day 29 and the program is ready. The celebration will start at 11:00 with the Pontx clown. Then there will be aperitif, herri kirolak, animations, food, Basque songs and concerts.
