See Esku calls on political parties to recreate and encourage debate on the right to decide
  • Spokesman Josu Etxaburu stressed in a committee of the Basque Parliament that from legislature to legislature steps are being taken to address the debate or the road to political status: "We demand commitments so that beyond words actions prevail and we can work with the greatest ambition the future that this country deserves."

See Esku insists that it is time to move from "say to do" and calls for commitment to the political parties of the Basque Parliament because "it is time to keep the bull by the branches". In other words, "it's time to take the slogan of the future."

The debate on self-determination, the new political status and the right to decide has long been strengthened and abandoned in the Basque Parliament; Lehendakari Iñigo Urkullu has repeatedly stressed that "the role of the parties in the chamber" is something that EH Bildu has demanded of him and not of the Basque Government.

The Basque Parliament has been asked to commit itself to building a "process" to decide the political future and to take steps to "open the debate"; to make the debate that listens to the word of citizenship "transparent and open"; and to make it a process based on citizen participation and to provide tools for this, including a "questionnaire to ratify the will of Basque citizenship".

Time to reopen the debate

It should be remembered that in 2018 San Sebastian, Bilbao and Vitoria were joined by a massive human chain, ending up in the Parliament of Vitoria and symbolically trusting political parties as a popular movement, to engage in the debate on the new status and thrive within the framework of the right to decide. But with the disappearance of social pressure, the issue is blocked for four years. This has given rise to a concern at the basis of Ades Esku, as expressed to ARGIA in relation to the proposal put forward last June, as stated in Parliament on Monday.

They then indicated that they are clear that they are not going to repeat the mistake, that they have to change their attitude. “We have learned from our mistakes, we have changed the chip. Our goal is to return with another force to the political landscape and during the course we will maintain that tone, we will be on top, caring and being rigorous”.
