It was the first Saturday of the year and the eighth held so far. They have returned with renewed forces: in recent demonstrations the number of people was declining, but last Saturday more than 50,000 people reunited throughout the French State. The French Government says that "savage violence" is being used, and to protest against this, a peaceful demonstration was called in Baiona. However, there were incidents in the three Basque capitals, where there were also incidents.

At 14:00 hours some 500 neighbours met in Baiona, most of whom wore yellow jackets. Among the protesters, there were calls for increased taxes and police violence and for social justice.

In addition to Ipar Euskal Herria, mobilizations have also been carried out in the capitals of France. The largest in the capital, Paris. The demonstrators called for the resignation of President Macron and the delivery of the Nobel Prizes. The Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, spoke: “This movement does not represent French citizenship.” In Paris, the protesters intended to reach government headquarters, but it was prevented by the gendarmes, who once again launched tear gas. About 20 people were arrested.

“We are also Yellow Jackets”

The images of Jaka Zure have been widely disseminated. This profile of the protesters, who in the disturbances face the gendarmes, is almost always that of the men. Therefore, in some of Jaka Hori’s mobilizations last Saturday, women filled the first lines, shouting “we are also Jaka Amarillo.” In addition, they stated that the Yellow Chaquetones were not limited to violence and gave way to a peaceful protest.
