Women suffering from endometriosis are not diagnosed with the disease in time because doctors underestimate symptoms
  • The Galician campaign Querendo Mulleres with Endometriose shows the unknown reality of a disease that mainly affects women: it is diagnosed with more than seven years of average delay, as the symptoms described by the patient are not of sufficient importance.

It is a disease that causes inflammation, which is associated with menstruation, but can occur in the pelvis, pleural, chest… The disease affects between 10% and 15% of the population and mainly affects the face of women.

The Galician campaign has denounced that women with endometriosis suffer from great health protection, as doctors do not believe in it. Or what's the same, because health professionals say it hurts them and they don't care, like they're "menstruation accounts," or thinking it's not going to be so much pain. Therefore, they have criticized that physical pain is added to emotional pain, because patients feel that they do not believe them, that they are exaggerating and that “women always have something” which is the mantra. The influence is also evident in sexual intercourse, in terms of physical and emotional pain.

The lack of knowledge and contempt of the disease affect the quality of life of patients and can lead to anxiety and depression.

El Marea calls for funding of endometriosis related research.
