- With 58.2% of the votes, Macron has proclaimed the winner of the presidential elections in France. On the other hand, Marine Le Pen, far right, has achieved 41.8%, almost eight points more than five years ago, according to official data. Emmanuel Macron was the new president of the French State, with 58.2% of the votes in favour. The winner was announced at 20:00 hours, although not all the votes of the candidates have yet been counted. The numbers will change, but the winner will be the same: So far President Macron.
Abstention, on the other hand, stood at 28.2%, a percentage higher than 25.44% that was recorded in 2017. It is also to be seen how many have voted blank.
At 17:00 hours, participation was 63.23%, two points lower than in the same period of 2017. In the first round, at that time it was 65 per cent of the population. Although the count of all data has not been recorded, the share has been 71.8%, according to the data provided.
Le Pen has strategically softened the xenophobic discourse of the extreme right and has addressed its message to the precarious citizens, placing yours as a "change" against Macron's policy. The result is that in the second round of 2017 it stood at 33.90%, almost eight points lower than in the second round of this period.
In the first round, Macron achieved 27.85% and Le Pen 23.15%. The far-left candidate, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, came third with a slight advantage of 0.8 points with the far right, and no candidature exceeded the 10% threshold.
Call to take the streets
Demonstrations will be held this evening in different cities. At 20:01 hours there has been an appeal to the street on social networks and face-to-face, and that before we know the results. Between the two rounds an appeal has been made to mobilize “against authoritarianism, racism and liberalism”.
The next, the Basque Parliament
The elections to the French Parliament will be held on 12 and 19 June this year. So far, the Macron Government also had a majority there. For the time being, the Socialist Party is not part of the negotiations, even though it has shown great openness to dialogue.
"Don't treat hatred: there are no accounts bleached, no revenge, no acrimony. In fact, 11.2 million people can be 12, 13, 14 million and become the center of gravity of the country," according to Melenchon.
