The Basque Government Minister for Equality, Beatriz Artolazabal, has highlighted the capacity of the media to change values and the importance of the gender perspective in journalism: “Journalism that moves away from sexist roles and stereotypes and from the androcentric view of the world” is necessary, he says, “especially at a time when there are discourses against equality that seek to simplify reality.” He also wanted to highlight the adoption of a new Equality Act.

The jury has highlighted Lucía Martínez Odriozola’s “pioneering and referential contribution” to the academic and journalistic sphere. For its part, the feminist journal Pikara “has become a point of reference for its commitment to human rights, especially for its commitment to equality, for its commitment to the documentation of the activities of women’s movements and for the possibilities offered by women to participate in the media, debate, improve communication skills and discover the use of social networks”, says the jury. Finally, Berria has highlighted his “commitment to equality and feminism”, “through quality information that incorporates the gender perspective as a daily practice in writing”.

They have also made public recognition “to other communication professionals who demonstrate their commitment to equality day by day and to all the media that work to promote quality journalism that incorporates a feminist and gender vision.”
