- The Oneka Women's Pensioners' Association has met with the Emakunde Director, Izaskun Landaida. They denounce that there is a great difference in benefits between men and women.
The fact that men have a better salary throughout their lives and that women who have worked at home have not paid contributions makes “there is a gap between men’s and women’s benefits”, pensioners stressed. Landaida has indicated that this difference is around 40%, according to some studies conducted by the Basque Institute of Statistics.
The Basque Government plans this year to increase the Income Guarantee Income (RGI) by 2.25%, while Oneka welcomes it. However, it is not enough: “We are still a long way from the EUR 1,080 that is the emergency minority.”
Male violence increases in all age groups
They have also reported that cases of male violence against adult women are intensifying, both by her husband and by her son. They say it's strange. “It is a global problem of society, and although not mentioned very much, adult women are a significant number of victims.”
The director of Emakunde has announced that in the coming weeks she will meet with more groups of women pensioners with the aim of reconciling concerns and demands.
