A woman is killed in Vitoria and her former partner is arrested in connection with the murder. On Sunday morning the corpse of a 32-year-old vitorian is located at an aparthotel on Gasteiz Avenue. Her three-year-old daughter was with her and has spent hours in the classroom until the appearance of the Ertzaintza along with her deceased mother. According to various media, the woman was expecting the twins.
On Sunday night, the Civil Guard takes back her former partner in Zaragoza. He travelled by taxi on the AP-68 road towards Valencia, fleeing Vitoria. He had a restraining order in place.
Women have lived until recently in Valencia and had an "extreme risk" protection, taking into account criteria to measure the risk of male violence. Some media outlets have pointed out that in Vitoria this level was reduced, considering that the residence was secret.
Expressions of Erkoreka
The first vice-president of the Basque Government and the Security Advisor, Josu Erkoreka, appeared to comment on the case. She explains that the woman was also in January in Vitoria and was related to the Ertzaintza. He asked his partner to withdraw the removal order because "he was not in danger and wanted to keep living with man". The woman returned to Vitoria on 18 May, Erkoreka notes that from the first day she had contact with the Ertzaintza and confirmed her request in January. He explains that the Ertzaintza contrasted the case with the Civil Guard and the Spanish Police and was studying it. According to Erkoreka, there was no definitive assessment.
Mobilization of the feminist movement
The feminist movement calls for a rally in Vitoria to denounce the murder. It will be on Monday at 19:00 at the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca. The death of Vitoria is the second Machista murder committed this year in Euskal Herria. Two weeks ago a woman was murdered by her former partner, shotgun.
