- Koldo Tellitu, president of the Ikastolas of Solidarity, stressed that this is a “big” expression of solidarity and that each ikastola is a local expression of the Ikastola movement, the Ikastola project and the Ikastola model.
Ikastola Elkartasun held the General Assembly of the European Cooperative Society in Hernani. The cooperatives gathered have shared EUR 872,000 to help the ikastolas that need it most and those that need it most.
For the ikastolas in crisis or in the creation and development phase to move forward, the Solidarity Fund that emerged in the 1990s is an expression of solidarity with the rest of the ikastolas. More than EUR 800,000 are allocated each year.
As Tellitu has reported, “the money distributed is obtained from the annual fees paid by the parents of the 56,860 pupils of the ikastolas network”.
Thanks to this “effective” tool that ikastolas offered themselves, several projects have moved forward in recent years. The partnership has highlighted that these projects "remain sound and healthy" for young people today.
