Economic solidarity with Eliseo Gil
Hainbat egile* 2021eko maiatzaren 05

As you know, Eliseo Gil Zubilwaukee, former director of the archaeological site of Iruña Veleia, was convicted of falsifying graffiti by a criminal court in Vitoria-Gasteiz in 2020. The defendant was sentenced to two years and three months in prison and several sentences of up to EUR 15,000 in total. He has recently received a car warning that he must immediately pay the death penalty. It has to be said that Eliseo Gil has lodged an application for amparo before the Constitutional Court (TC).

"We call on anyone who is sensitive to the issue to show solidarity with Eliseo Gil and make a small contribution," he added.

We believe that the judgment has been totally unfair, since the trial did not prove the falsehood of a single graphite, and therefore less the authorship of Eliseo Gil. Those of us who have followed this issue closely over the years have clearly seen what injustice has been done against our cultural heritage and against some people. His only crime has been the astonishing discovery.

For all these reasons, and knowing their precarious monetary situation, we appeal to all those who are sensitive to the issue to show their solidarity with Eliseo Gil and his small contribution in order to be able to pay the financial penalty. For this reason, we ask that each one insert the amount you want into the following bank account:

Laboral Kutxa: ES0330350056430561220095 (on behalf of Unzalu-Fontaneda, surname of holders). The evolution of the collection will be regularly reported on the following blogs: Ama Ata, Iruña Veleia Martxan and Iruña Veleia, false or true.

Thank you!
