Ecuadorians oppose oil exploitation in the Yasuni natural reserve
  • It is also known as the “Ecuadorian Amazon”, with 2,000 trees, 204 mammals, 610 birds, 121 reptiles and 250 species of fish. Agent Yasunidos has been in favour of the survey and against the exploitation of this natural area. The Ecuadorian Government estimates that the country will have annual yields of less than $1.2 billion, but on the contrary, it will maintain that natural heritage.

Its inhabitants have voted against oil exploitation in the Yasuni National Park in Ecuador. Agent Yasunidos’s campaign for the survey has been key to enabling the official referendum to be held with the first round of the presidential elections.

The medium is very severe and therefore there is a high probability of land-discharges, as you mentioned Naiz.eus. It can therefore become a dangerous place for indigenous people living in it. The National Park has found 2,000 trees, 204 mammals, 610 birds, 121 reptiles and 250 species of fish, with the main indigenous peoples being Tagans, Taromenane and Dugakis.

In view of the results, it is now up to the Government of Ecuador to make changes. So far there have been 55,000 barrels of oil, a great economic base in the country, 11 per cent. The Government estimates that the benefits will be reduced by $1.2 billion and that the cost of demolition of the facility will be $500 million.

Model for others

“It is a very important antecedent, which can be a model and a dash of hope for descendants or other countries,” explains Ecuadorian activist Helena Gualinga. La Mare has spread the words of Entre Pueblos: “All exploitation models have been unable to guarantee the prosperity of Ecuadorian citizens, which has succeeded in increasing social imbalance, promoting poverty and excluding migrants.”
