Navarre’s organic production continues to grow. A total of 108 new arrivals were registered between January and July 2022: 91 plant producers, nine livestock farmers, four processors and four distributors. Of these 108 highs, 98 are new entrants registered in CPAEN/NNPEK and ten are extensions of other figures.

As for the high levels of plant production, the main crops are cereals, vineyards and almonds. As a curiosity, in Lesaka it has been high to produce avocados. As far as livestock are concerned, the majority of farms are for equine livestock, although new cattle and sheep heads have been included. New processing includes plant preserves, meat cutting and oil packaging.

2022 is a good year for CPAEN/NNPEK, as the number of operators has reached 800. These data show that organic production in Navarre continues to grow and that support for organic farming and farming means that more and more people are betting on organic production. "This growing trend encompasses different sectors and presents organic production as an opportunity for a dignified and sustainable life, due to the growing demand for organic food," says CPAEN/NNPEK.

In 2021 there were 117 discharges and in mid-2022 there have been 107 discharges, so this year an increase in discharges is expected.

"The growth experienced in recent years, however, must make a significant leap in meeting the requirements of the European Union, which in its strategy "From farm to table" states that the organic agricultural area must exceed 25% in 2030, figures that are still far from the reality of Navarre", warned the Association.

To this end, the CPAEN/NNPEK has announced that it will continue to underpin the sector with producers and build more sustainable local food systems.

CPAEN/NNPEK proposes to increase operators and the organic agricultural area in the coming years. To this end, a number of objectives have been set: work will continue on the process of raising awareness among the general population of the importance of the consumption of organic, local, seasonal and primary food, and the importance of organic production and of the people who produce it in the fight against the maintenance of the living rural world and depopulation," the association said in a note.

Since Navarre is in line with the European strategy, it is to be assumed that in the coming years the Navarro ecological sector may experience strong growth, in line with the figures given in other autonomous communities, in European countries and in the rest of the world.
