The members of the EH Precarious Coordinator request that the UPV/EHU Steering Team take steps to “reverse the precarious situation” of the PDI. In the demonstrations held in Bilbao, Donostia-San Sebastián and Vitoria-Gasteiz, LAB, CCOO, ELA and Steilas denounce the “precarious” working conditions.
Cuts have increased with the entry into force of the LOU, according to the trade unions: “This worsening has occurred as a result of the restrictive interpretation performed by the rectoral team led by Eva Ferreira in the coverage of casualty substitutions.” They denounce that the substitutes for new contracts have a maximum salary of EUR 800.
According to the unions, participation is around 85% for all teachers. They also stress that “the data is even greater” in the group of substitute teachers.
Precariousness of substitutes
They stress that the reason for calling for a strike is the conditions for replacement. In addition to “increasing the workload”, they have denounced the denial of sexenies of research, the annulment of agreements and increased bureaucracy to temporary researchers and students. “We will continue to fight for another university model at the service of Basque society and with decent working conditions,” they said. The UPV/EHU workers have also been called on to strike the public sector on 25 October.
