In absolute pure votes, no proper comparison can be made, because in these elections the great winner was abstention. It's been the biggest of all times. Abstention, for its part, has risen by 7 points to 47%. In other words, almost half of the CAV population has stayed at home in these elections. EH Bildu and Vox have been the only formations that have increased in number of votes, while EH Bildu and Citizens have voted.
Four years ago, the PNV achieved 37.60% of the votes (28%) and the PSE achieved 11.94% (9%). The PNV has achieved 3 more seats (31) and has achieved 2 and a half points (39.12%), while the Socialists have increased two points (13.64%) and achieved one more seat (10). Between the two they have easily achieved their main objective, the absolute majority in Parliament.
The match that has risen the most has been EH Bildu. In 2016, 21.26% of voters achieved sufficient support to rise to 27.84%, 6 points and a half above the results achieved. This significant increase has not meant an increase in the CAV seats of the same level, as four more have been recorded, up to a total of 22.
The big loser has been Van-Elkarrekin, led by Miren Gorrotxategi. They have gone from 11 to 6 seats and lost 6 and a half points in votes (8.03%). The loss has been, and not of any kind, that occurred with the sum of pp of Carlos Iturgaiz and of Citizens. Specifically, they have lost 4 seats (5), while in percentage terms they have dropped 6 points (6.75%).
The ultraderechysts have also achieved their main objective, that VOX have a representative in Álava. In 2016, Vox won 771 votes and in today’s elections it won 17,517 votes (1.96%). Equo, with 11,616 votes and 1.30%, has won no seats, and has remained in office.
