The new representative of the Spanish Government in the Basque Country, Jesús Laza, revealed his opinion during his visit to the Memorial Center for Victims of Terrorism on June 29.
Memorial has been denounced as “exclusionary” by several associations, including the Basque Platform against Crimes of Francoism. They feel identified with the project because within the victims of the past it will be necessary to include the victims of Francoism, but they are a complaint that the law excludes them.
That is why they ask the Basque institutions to create a new project that takes into account all the victims and also to abandon the “exclusive memorial” that the Spanish government wants to create in Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The new project they propose, which they envisage without the participation of the Spanish Government, “would not involve many disagreements with the institutions of Álava” and the place is the same one they proposed two years ago: Church of March 3.
