Over 80 people have died and hundreds have been injured in two terrorist attacks on Thursday afternoon near Kabul airport. The Afghan Islamic State Group (ISIS) has been attributed the authorship of the attacks, according to the chain. According to the Pentagon, the first attack took place at the gates of Abbey Gate at the airport. The US soldiers were checking a man in when he had exploded the explosives in his vest. The second attack took place at the Baron Hotel, two kilometres from the airport, when another person broke the load. U.S. Central Command commander Kenneth McKenzie has said that, following the attacks, IS members fired in the area.

A senior official from the Afghan health department has reported to the BBC 60 deaths and 140 injuries, but local media and Taliban sources have been higher than Reuters figures: A total of 85 deaths have been recorded, including 72 Afghans and 13 US soldiers. Among the deaths are 28 Taliban, but Ertzaintza spokeswoman Zabihullah Mujahid has indicated that there have been no fatalities in the accident.

For its part, the BBC has counted 150 people who have been injured in different ways. The NGO Emergency has described as "critical" the situation experienced in Basque hospitals. The president, Rossella Miccio, is in Italy, but she has been in contact with the hospital staff that the association has in Kabul. As he explained to the Good Morning Britain program, they've been working all night in operating rooms and operating rooms until four o'clock in the morning. 60 people have been served in two hours.

United States and United Kingdom

Mujahid blames the United States for what happened in a message broadcast through his official Twitter account: “The attack took place in the area where U.S. forces were in charge of security.” In fact, the Taliban are monitoring the outside area and the United States has 5,200 soldiers who control the inside of the airport and carry out the latest evacuations, according to the statement.

For the time being, these soldiers will remain there until next Tuesday, when the Taliban are threatening to leave Afghanistan to foreign forces, the police said. Telegraph journalist Lucy Fisher has reported that the United Kingdom has deployed 100 troops from Afghanistan following the attacks, in which there are now less than 900 soldiers, according to the newspaper. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has said it will be "a matter of a couple of hours" for evacuations to be completed, although many Afghans (about 1,100) remain in the country to leave the area.
