More and more young people decide to rent a room, as the constant rise in prices and low wages make it impossible to rent the whole house. Moreover, demand is higher than supply, making rents even more expensive. In the Spanish state, renting a room is 55% more expensive than a decade ago, according to the Diario Vasco in its digital edition. The average cost of tickets is EUR 423, EUR 123 less than in the case of Donostia-San Sebastián. In the list Pisos.com Bilbao ranks eighth, while Vitoria-Gasteiz and Iruña are not among the top ten. Not even the cheapest. The list is closed by Ávila (249.50 euros per month).

In the words of Ferrán Font, representative of the portal Pisos.com, room rental is the first step towards the emancipation of young people and the last option for the most sought after. "If that alternative is no longer affordable, the consequences for society can be very negative. Moreover, although the percentages are not yet particularly striking, we are seeing that year after year the furniture and basic equipment of shared housing, such as washing machine, heating systems and air conditioning, is being reduced."

As for the age group, young people between the ages of 18 and 25 are the ones who rent the most (50.79%), compared to those between 26 and 35 (29.38%).
