Imanol, who works as a trucker in the works of the suburban area of Donostia-San Sebastián, has testified to the news (he has not given his surnames for security reasons). As he explained, he works for a company subcontracted in the works of the suburban area, and his boss has forced him to carry an overload on the truck to reduce costs. Although this, as Imanol stressed, endangers both him and the rest of the road drivers travelling through it.

He has witnessed irregularities since he joined his job. Its function was to collect the material from the Morlans tunnel into the truck and take it to the landfill, so it has had to carry more weight than had been authorised from the beginning. “Our boss has some pressures, like the works. And what can be done to make the job cheaper? Carry the load of two trips in a single trip. In a three-axle truck, you can of course transport twelve tons, and we were driving 24. We doubled the capacity,” he explained.

Threatened for denouncing the situation

In the summer of 2019, Imanol decided to go to court. By then, the Ertzaintza had already stopped five times to take it to the scale and weigh the load; five times it was overloaded. In one of these controls, the Ertzaintza informed him that next time he would accuse him of “driving recklessly.” The Police also informed him that if an accident ever occurred and a person's death occurred, the judge would act against him. “And I can’t accept that,” she confesses to Berria. In the face of the wrong work situation and the warnings of the Ertzaintza, he went to court, where he was arrested. Since then, he has told the newspaper that he has suffered a great deal, as he has been pressured and threatened: “As the boss knew I had filed the complaint, he threatened me. He told me that if I did not withdraw the complaint, I would have an accident and I would have a very bad time. I decided with the union to report it at the Ertzaintza. Ten days later, I got another call from a sicario. He told me that I had until the end of the month to take off the complaint and leave the company, and otherwise I would suffer the consequences.” The worker, who was under psychological pressure for the damage he suffered, was discharged in February last year and has been out of work for almost a year.

He has already had four judgments relating to this case and has another two before him. One of these trials was conducted this Thursday at the Donostia-San Sebastián Criminal Court for threats and irregularities.
