The City Council of Donostia-San Sebastián has definitively approved the Municipal Ordinance regulating the Low Emissions Zone. The final procedure is now lacking, and it will be adopted by the plenary. The mayor, Eneko Goia, has said that this will be in November and that the Low Emissions Zone will be launched in December.

Following public information on the dossier, 41 specific claims were submitted to the proposal. Of these, the majority (36) have been rejected, three have been accepted and two have been partially received.

The purpose of the ordinance is to improve air quality, mitigate climate change and regulate the city’s low-emission areas. On entry into force, the City Hall will allow one month for citizens to know the new regulations and people without direct authorization can process the corresponding authorization.

Conversely, access control cameras will be launched from January 2025. In addition, during the months of January and February, all persons who fail to comply with the rules will receive an information notice so that they know that an infringement has been committed. The fines will be imposed on vehicles and users who fail to comply with the ordinance from next March.

On the other hand, from November onwards, the City Hall will set up a citizen information point at the Udalinfo office of the Arroka Plaza in Amara. A website will also be made available to citizens for consultation and management with users.
