The Goizaldi Dance Group of San Sebastian, created by Cándido Pujana Tellería (Ordizia, 1905 - San Sebastián, 1985), has a special year. It will be 75 years since its launch in 1948 and they have organized a programme to celebrate it. All the details have been presented in the public presentation on Thursday in the San Jerónimo room.
Among other activities, a special event will be held on 2 February with the procession of the Ezpata Dantzaris, surrounded by ex dantzaris and accompanied by music. In the Plaza Euskadi de Gros, besides dancing the Ezpata dantza, the memory of the 75th anniversary will be inaugurated.
In addition, throughout the year performances have been organized with dantzaris from different places in the Basque Country, as well as from the Oinkari dance group in Boise. Euskal Jaia, Dantzari Eguna, exhibitions, meals, new logo, documentary, the renewal of the web... will take advantage of its anniversary.
Goizaldi is one of the oldest dance groups in the Basque Country. Following the work and research carried out by the zaldibitarra Juan Inazio Iztueta in Gipuzkoa in the nineteenth century, Juan Antonio Olano and José Lorenzo Pujana were in charge of teaching the Basque dances of Gipuzkoa, and later Kandido Pujana assumed this responsibility. In 1948 he founded the Goizaldi group from the Dance School of San Sebastian.
Since then, in addition to the dances of Gipuzkoa, they have danced the main dances of the entire Basque Country, becoming a reference in this area.
