The San Sebastian incinerator opens the door to burning industrial waste as well.
  • According to the Naiz chain, the Basque Government’s Vice-Office for the Environment has adopted, by means of a resolution, the changes that the GHK intended to make in the Integrated Environmental Authorisation of the incinerator of Donostia. Consequently, the incinerator will also be able to burn industrial waste, even though in principle it already had the authorisation to burn urban waste. The Basque Government’s resolution has described the burning of industrial waste in the Basque Country as ‘non-substantial change’.

The Naiz environment has made public the resolution signed by the Deputy Environment Minister, Amaia Barredo Martín. It states that the incinerator in San Sebastian has been authorised to use other substances such as "plastics which cannot be physically recovered from polygons" or "rejections from slag recycling slag, residues which have not been sufficiently burned".
