Under the motto We want to live in Donostia, tenants of Azora, Aloku Benta Berri and Stop Evictions have jointly made several petitions to public institutions, including the resources needed to limit rental prices and vulture funds.
The three agents have denounced that “for the thousands of Basques with medium and low incomes it is a social drama to achieve dignified and affordable housing, due to the “unaffordable prices” of the rentals promoted by the great owners. They have put the solution on the table and called on the institutions to take action: “The solution is to limit rentals and mobilize empty homes for social rent.”
They have asked the City Hall of Donostia to “urgently process” the documents that designate Donostia as a tensioned municipality so that these and other families can request a three-year extension and avoid the eviction scheduled for 31 October. They have therefore appealed to the plenary on 27 June, at 11:45 a.m., at the City Hall door.
They ask the Hacienda Foral to send as soon as possible to the Ministry of Housing the anonymous data of the Gipuzkoan taxpayers – on 30 June with the closure of the income tax return exercise – “to develop the reference rates of rent prices of the municipalities”. They ask the Basque Government: “That, without delay, the Official Gazette of the Basque Country (BOPV) should publish the Order under which the municipality of Donostia-San Sebastián is deemed to be stressed.”
The institutions have emphasized that there are no delays, because they see "incomprehensible" that the order that gives "municipality stressed" to Errenteria is not yet published in the BOPV. Errenteria was the first municipality to formally request the Basque Government to declare a tensioned area, but the measure has not been made official. They have asked the administrations for “political will for action”, “and not only in election campaigns”.
Families at risk of eviction have thanked all the political parties and agents who have joined the demands: “The four tenant families of the Azora vulture fund and the convening platforms want to thank the citizens, the councilors of EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Van-IU and the Junteros.”
