"It is official," said the representatives of Donostia Bizirik and EAM in the media, "Donostia is the Gipuzkoan municipality that generates the highest amount of garbage per person and, at the same time, the least organic matter recycles. They've made changes in the villages around and we're now officers on the shameful list of octaves."
San Sebastian produces 288 kg of rejection per person per year and is in the 40% of selective collection, well above the average of Gipuzkoa, being Donostiarra one in four Gipuzkoans, considerably increasing the figures of the territory. "The City of Donostia-San Sebastian - they have denounced - has in practice done nothing in the last four years to reduce the amount of rejection. A minority separates waste and recycles organic, and most do not change their habits. Nobody pushes change. In the meantime, an incinerator is being built 5 kilometres away. (...) What interest does the City of Donostia-San Sebastian have in not promoting efficient waste collection? Will it not be nearly 55,000 tonnes of mixed waste that Donostia generates each year to continuously feed the incinerator being built in Zubieta? ".
Donostia Bizirik and EAM have asked the City Hall of Donostia-San Sebastián to "move the ass" and to take immediate measures in 2020 to reach 65% of the selective collection, bringing forward concrete measures that are underway in many municipalities of Gipuzkoa. And he has asked the citizens, even though the main responsibility is the institution, to change their customs as well, distinguishing and acting consciously in homes, workplaces, associations and environments.
The two popular movements have made a major call for May 17, International Recycling Day: Mobilizations will be held at 19:00 hours. Previously, thousands of leaflets will be distributed in the neighborhoods of Donostia, and two other special events will be held on two Saturdays at 12:00 in the Plaza Cataluña de Gros and on 11 May in the Plaza Easo de Amara Viejo to show the real situation of the city. "We have to be clear," they pointed out in reference to the drivers of Zubieta's incinerator: Goodbye to your business without our waste."
