The newspaper Naiz has reported the news. What is thrown by the sinks on the street goes directly to the sea. The City Hall has called on citizens and visitors to avoid any kind of pollution. The plate placed next to the sink says: “Here the sea begins, don’t reject anything.” The plates have been installed in very frequented areas in Basque and French.

The cauldron is often thrown at the sinks and the village house has taken it as an example. According to a study by the European Commission, colids are the most residue on European beaches, followed by plastic bottles. Cigarette butts are very damaging. The plastics containing the filters take about ten years to disappear and the chemicals contained in the colids are left in the water, some of which are very polluting.

In the photo below you can see one of the boats placed in the cantina of the Atalaya de Bermeo. The company Arroyabe, dedicated to the manufacture of preserves, has given these glass containers to the cantineras. The glass vessel says that the wind can bring pieces of paper, pipe skins, to hang cigarettes off. The boat also bears the slogan “The sea begins here”. It is intended to maintain the terrace and the coast without waste.
