Two young people detained in the eviction of the Hotel Expropriated will be tried
  • The first trial relating to the eviction of the Socialist Centre in Legutiano will take place on 1 September. The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a 13-month prison sentence and a fine of 3,600 euros for the two young people involved.

The Hotel de Gutileano was built almost 20 years ago, but it was empty for many years. In 2019, a group of young people occupied the building and founded the Hotel de los Expropriados, a “basic infrastructure to strengthen the socialist process.”

Since its inception, the Socialist Center of Legutiano was “at risk, and after several processes, it was emptied by the Ertzaintza on June 28, 2022. Several young people gathered to defend space and the Ertzaintza injured some of them and arrested two young people between the ages of 18 and 21. In addition, the autonomous police caused several injuries.

Two young detainees will be tried on Friday after more than a year. The Expropriated Hotel and the Workers Controlled Spaces Defense Community have made known the requests for sanctions by both: The Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested a 13-month prison sentence for each, together with the payment of 3,600 euros in fines.

On 1 September the Socialist Movement convened a concentration in the courts of Vitoria at 10:30 a.m. He has denounced the “attack on the defense of worker controlled spaces” and claimed that “responding to this offensive is more necessary than ever”.
