In May, and taking advantage of the fact that the World Tourism Organization moved to Donostia-San Sebastián, 61 social movements and trade unions held together the week of social protests under the slogan La Vida es Mayor. In this link you can see all the agents.
"It was a very positive experience, as many agents worked with us to carry out a concrete project, building alliances, knowing each other better and, to put it another way, forming a unique front in the different trenches," the note states.
Over a week, dozens of initiatives were taken that criticised the current political model. The most spectacular initiative was probably the occupation of an eight-storey public building, which had been empty for over 15 years, in the heart of San Sebastian. Maddi Txintxurreta collected the details of the week in this report.
The note denounces that from the beginning made it clear that they were not going to use violence and that they hoped that they would not use it of power at any time. "We said that our tools for dealing with unjust laws and policies would be civil disobedience, lack of collaboration, direct action and resistance, and so it was. In view of this, what did the so-called Basque Regime do? They sent their political police and punished, beat and assaulted the social protests, which are absolutely legitimate. In addition to identifying a dozen people, the officers arrested two people. It is clear that we are able to question their model and do not want to open a gap at all," they have denounced.
Also charged by the lawyer
They have reported that they have charged attorney Haizea Núñez Palacio, who was involved in the defence of these social agents. "As far as legal forms are concerned, this is an absolutely null and void form, extraordinary and without respect for fundamental rights. In short, the right to defend citizenship is clearly being violated. It is a disgrace to see this violation of the right to exercise freely and independently as a lawyer. It is unacceptable for lawyers and attorneys that we citizens choose in defence of our rights to persecute the police and the judges." They understand that this is an attack on the right to defend citizenship and that they are prepared to go all the way to desist. The agents have strongly denounced and will hold the Examining Judge No. 2 of Donostia-San Sebastián responsible, who has been disabled.
Trials on 17 and 25 September
On Monday, 17 September, a rally was called at 9:30 and 25 at 10:00 a.m. before the Court of Egia in solidarity with the condemned. "You are not alone, we citizens defend each other. A message to the Basque Regime: your fines, attacks and trials are yet another reason for continuing to work together, and to know: we firmly intend to continue to build people’s power, because we disagree at all with the current situation.”
Photo of solidarity today
On Wednesday afternoon, on the hill of Tabakalera a photo of solidarity was called at 19:00. They have appealed to all social movements and actors to join and bring their demands. On the hillside of Tabakalera, the Ertzaintza assaulted the neighbours and arrested two people who were injured. Here's the video:
The 61 popular movements and unions that made up the dynamic Vida Da Nagusia wanted to send the institutions the following message: "The people are us and we are organized. If you attack any of us, you will attack all of us, you will attack the people. The decisions you make without regard to citizenship in your offices are directly against us and we, rather than the offices, prefer the places. It's life that makes us proclaim and we're going to bet on it."
