The study was carried out with young people from Gran Bilbao and it has been concluded that adolescents have little relationship with the culture in Basque in these non-Basque environments. In addition, they have emphasized that although in schools there are cultural references in Basque for children, they are missing as they go into adolescence. From the beginning of 2020 until the spring of 2021, the study was carried out in the educational centers of Bilbao, Portugalete and Getxo, and hence the needs that have emerged in the teaching unit #Damolat, in collaboration with the Federation of Ikastolas and with the subsidy of the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.

The unit, which will be extended free of charge in the coming weeks, will be made available to all professionals working in the promotion of the Basque country. Previously, however, the project #Damolat will be piloted at the Minas de Barakaldo school. The objective of the project is that adolescents can find references in Basque that guarantee the transmission of culture in Basque. In fact, they have explained that most of the young people of Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Álava know Basque, but that in their use it does not reflect that.
