For the first time in the history of Barakaldo, teaching based on the Basque language has been the preferred option. The latest data on tuition in general regime teachings reveal that 35 years after the creation of model D, Basque schools in Euskera have gained a relevant role among the priorities of Barakaldo families.
This is evident from the report of the EUSTAT-Basque Institute of Statistics: In the course 2018/2019 there was a draw as 40.7% of the students enrolled in model B and 40.1% in model D. The remaining 19.2% corresponds to model A.
Although the registration data for the 2019/2020 course has not yet been disseminated, it can be assumed that model D is the most selected in Barakaldo, as each year it has grown more than a percentage point compared to model B, which 12 months ago had only six tenths. On the other hand, teaching entirely in Spanish has stabilized, and has remained around 20% for six years.
The students of model D receive all the subjects of enrollment in Basque, except English and Spanish. The students of model B study half in Basque and the other half in Spanish. The students of model A, on the contrary, study all of them in Spanish, except English and Euskera.
