Tribute to the victims of COVID-19?
Hainbat egile* 2021eko apirilaren 28a

On the 25th we learned through the media of a "tribute" to some victims of COVID-19.

The words of Lehendakari, the Social Policy Deputy of Álava and the Social Policy Counselor were far from what many relatives and relatives of these victims would like to hear.

We are many, also victims, who did not invite us to this event. The institutions have not given us a voice either, but that has not prevented us from reporting the cruelties that we have experienced and that we have lived.

Propaganda is part of the agenda campaign and the "good doing" of the institutions. They've stung on the wound. The incumbent of Médecins Sans Frontières makes us our own: "Little, late and bad."

More than a thousand people have died in homes after receiving COVID-19. Many did not receive proper attention and died in unimaginable loneliness. What to say about the situations our seniors have experienced in their homes and day centers.

"The lehendakari said no one had 'manual'. Manuals refer to objects, furniture, household appliances -- never to people."

Vaccination in residences interrupted an alarming number of deaths, but not the worrying situation of non-residents.

We will not allow the emotional launch of flowers in the wetland to be the end of the savage situation lived.

Older people continue to be victims, not of COVID-19, but of the assistance and mismanagement of institutions.

Lehendakari said no one had "instruction books." The instruction books refer to objects, furniture, household appliances -- never to people, so they should not be used by a President, or so we believed.

He even admitted to making "mistakes," but he didn't say what mistakes. The masks to a hundred users were also "an error" in the residence of Donostia-San Sebastián (Diario vasco 23.4.21).

Following vaccination, the situation in private, public and concerted residences has been taken for granted. We don't. That is why we wish to highlight the errors that occurred before the pandemic and that still occur.

The workers in the residences are insufficient, their working conditions are scarce, which prevents them from receiving quality care. The ratios, the number of workers needed to serve the users, are distorted and are not calculated by category, but by the total number of contracted workers. There is no continuing education. Audits never find "irregularities". In most of them, primary care centers do not monitor their health. Activities to improve their physical and cognitive impairment often do not exist even statements.

There are still victims today. They are interrupted, visits are limited, the number of people close to each other is limited, they are prevented from knowing where their relatives live, they are forced to make visits in a tent in spaces that do not meet all the requirements. Their rights as people are being violated. That is why, and for far more, there are still victims, and there are many, Mr Lehendakari.

And nothing to say about those other victims. As always, to those whom the lehendakari condemns invisibility and oblivion. Thousands of immigrant women working without basic rights.

The staging such as that on Saturday would have meaning if they were accompanied by the solutions of "errors" mentioned by Mr Lehendakari, but he does not mention them. Why are they too many?
