Macron extends the status of the COVID-19 passport in many fields
  • In a televised statement on 12 July, the French President announced that from 15 September all health professionals and volunteers should be vaccinated and also workers caring for the elderly. The Minister of Health has made it clear that those who do not join will not be able to work and that they will not pay their salary if they do not join.

"We are going to reward humanity and we are going to devote the cuts to those who are not vaccinated," he added. This is what French President Emmanuel Macron proposes, the strategy to deal with COVID-19 and, above all, the new variant of Delta. Thus, the French Government does not oblige to include the whole of society, but does have the COVID-19 passport known as the "health pass". "As of July 21, we will extend the passage of health to spaces of leisure and culture. In particular, all those over the age of 12 will have to be vaccinated or have a negative test result [more than 50 people] to access a show, amusement park, concert or festival." For a start, and from the beginning of August, it will also become a condition for staying in cafes, restaurants, bars, shopping centers, public transport and even hospitals. At the same time, antigen tests and PCR tests that have been cancelled so far should be paid out of pocket from the autumn onwards, with the aim that citizens can also have access to vaccination.

Thus, the vaccine that guarantees social life and presence in spaces of socialization will be intimately linked to the population of Iparralde and, in general, to that of the French State. Macron has a clear objective: "The goal is for all French people to be vaccinated, because it is the only way to return to normal life," he added. Macron made these new measures public in his speech on 12 July and will be the subject of debate on 21 July at the French National Assembly.

Health vaccination, yes or yes

In addition, the French President said that from 15 September all health professionals and volunteers should be vaccinated on a compulsory basis, including workers who care for the elderly, among other factors. The Minister of Health, Olivier Veran, immediately added that those who do not join will not be able to work and will not pay their wages.

In the French State, 45 per cent of workers in nursing homes have received the full vaccine, 64 per cent in hospitals and 81 per cent of those working on their own.

On the other hand, the French police will "intensify" access controls to "dangerous" countries and "force the isolation" of citizens who are not vaccinated. The state of health emergency has been re-established in the areas of Martinique and Paris Meeting.

Next, 926,000 people are cited

It can be said that Macron’s objective has been partially met, given the number of connections made on the Doctolib website as soon as the declaration is completed. The citizens of Ipar Euskal Herria and France in general have to go through this website to receive a health appointment. The director of the Doctolib Center stated that on Saturday night, when Macron's intervention was over, "20,000 citations per minute" were taken for insertion and, due to the excess of connections, "ten minutes had to be expected". In total, on the night of 12 July, 926,000 people have been reported to be vaccinated, totaling 7.2 million connections.
