COP28: The UN climate change conference will be held on Thursday on a warmer planet than ever
  • The congress will be held on 30 November and 12 December. Its objective is to combat climate change, taking into account the records of global temperatures and extreme temporary phenomena affecting the inhabitants of the planet.

This Thursday will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, COP28, the United Nations' main annual event to address the fight against climate change.

Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber will lead: In addition to the United Arab Emirates Minister of Industry, he runs the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, a company that capitalizes over $12 billion.

More than 70,000 participants are expected to meet at the congress, including heads of state and government, government officials, representatives of international organizations, business leaders, academics and representatives of civil society organizations.

They look forward to meeting the objectives of the Paris Agreements signed in 2015. These agreements established the need to keep the global temperature increase below 2°C and to try to limit it to 1.5°C at the end of the century, relative to the pre-industrial era.

Eva Hernández, an expert in sustainable finance and a Spanish partner of EFPA, has pointed out that the main objective is to combat global warming by taking measures that are compatible with the well-being of the planet.

Objectives of the Congress
  • Accelerate the energy transition and reduce emissions to 2030: In addition to tripling renewable capacity by 2030, the aim is to double the energy efficiency ratio, increase electrification and reduce methane emissions, as well as the use of fossil fuels.
  • Lay the foundations for a new comprehensive climate financing agreement.
  • Putting nature, people, lives and livelihoods at the heart of climate action: The Loss and Damage Fund is expected to be launched at COP28.
  • Organise the most inclusive COP in history by mobilising all actors. Because young people are expected to be very involved.
