Chivite, about not valuing Euskera in the job calls: “We will not change our minds”
  • The President of Navarra, María Chivite, has assured that the PSN will not change its position and that the Basque country will not be recognized as merit in the non-Basque area. In an interview with Euskadi Radio, the lehendakari spoke about the new Basque decree this Monday morning. He said that his disagreement with Geroa Bai is at one point, and that this will not destabilise the coalition government.

“The PSN said that it does not want to value Euskera as merit in the non-Basque area, taking into account the socio-linguistic reality,” said lehendakari Chivite about the new decree of the Basque Country, in the debate phase. "In that we will not change our minds," he said, emphasizing the discrepancies he has generated with his government partner, Geroa Bai. “We are focusing on a very small part of language policy. It is linguistic policy education, promotion of Euskera in the media, availability of resources in Euskarabidea... There is consensus in these areas.”

Disagreement by Geroa Bai

GEROA Bai, Podemos and Left-Ezkerra do not agree with the new Foral Decree, which has already been approved. Chivite has assured that the divergence will not destabilise the government or the legislature and that the situation will not change. “The wager on this is very clear.” Last week, Geroa Bai parliamentarian Jabi Arakama said in an interview in Euskalerria Irratia that the disagreement of the party strains the government and that this tension will not break the government.
