One of the largest workplaces in Gipuzkoa, the CAF of Beasain, which manufactures trains, will re-launch the chain next Monday. On March 16, the workers decided not to go to work on their own because of the risk generated by the coronavirus. The Works Council has on this occasion agreed a safety protocol with the management of the company.

As the LAB trade union explained, an agreement was reached on Friday morning with the company that the return should be gradual. First, the staff of section 4 of the work centre will be returned, but on the same day not, but by instalments. The resulting schedule imbalance will be recovered with an on-line health training session.

On the other hand, hundreds of office workers have been working from their homes and that is what they are going to push forward from now on.

The agreement provides for a number of additional measures, including the recovery of lost production days. In addition, 100 temporary workers will be hired and senior officials and board members will drop their salary by 5 per cent.

As far as the safety protocol is concerned, permanent hygiene measures, entry into exits, lockers, toilets, etc. shall be established. Criteria for the use of face masks and gloves have also been defined and measures will be taken to leave the necessary safety spaces.

A protocol has also been established to restrict contacts in the event of coronavirus infection and about a hundred workers have been identified who may be in a vulnerable situation in this regard, to whom special measures will be applied.

To explain all this, LAB has convened an affiliate assembly in digital format on Friday at 16:00 p.m.
