At the top of Buruntza an ikurrina has been placed in the place where the Francoist cross was.
  • Following the demolition of the great Francoist cross at the top of Mount Buruntza last December, a group of young people from Andoain placed a giant Ikurrina in the same place. Ernai proclaimed the December action, so they called on the organization's representative to testify before the courts by way of a complaint against it.

Where before you saw a large cross at the top of Buruntza, now you see the ikurrina standing. Naiz.eus explains that at the beginning of October a group of young nationalists from Andoain hung the ikurrina of a great mast.

The event was shot down on December 17, 2021 and was promulgated by the youth organization Ernai. Besides Buruntzaldea, Ernai tore crossings from other locations on the 85th anniversary of the bombings of Gernika and Durango. Consequently, seven months later, he was summoned to the Court of Tolosa to declare the legal representative of the organization, denounced by the Association of Christian Lawyers, according to Naiz.

The City of Andoain denounced the "sabotage" against the cross, with the sponsorship of the PSE and the PNV, as it is a "significant" monument. On the contrary, Islada Escondida assured that the cross had a Falangist origin, as it was built in honor of the deceased Requetés and Francoists on that mountain.

The cross was inaugurated in 1939 with great bombs by the Franco authorities and representatives of the Catholic Church. Later, during the Franco regime, the strangers placed an ikurrina on the tip of the cross clandestinely during the day of San Roque, as Miguel Ansa explained in this testimony.
