Intervention by the Government of Brazil

The echo reaches Brazil. A few hours after the event, at the beginning of a public act, President Lula Da Silva has strongly condemned racism in football. He has shown his support for the Brazilian player and has called for action from both the Spanish football league and the international football federation and the Spanish justice system.

After the President, Brazil’s Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, spoke harder. In addition to saying that Spain has to take action, he pointed out that there is a principle in the Penal Code that allows the protection of citizens who are abroad, provided that the justice of the territory where the act has taken place does not intervene before.

Incidentally, the Minister of Justice has pointed out that this is a principle enshrined in international law and that it is not only the principle enshrined in Brazilian law, but that the Spanish State also includes it in the Penal Code.
