An opportunity to promote Basque culture for visitors, a showcase for agents
  • The Durango Fair has received over 110,000 visitors in four days. Gerediaga Elkartea and representatives of the Azoka spaces were satisfied with the result. The association has stressed that the 54th edition has been fruitful, balanced and well attended. The company Siadeco has collected data from the Fair through a survey in which it is estimated that about six million euros are mobilised.

Over 110,000 visitors, 5,000 more than last year. The days of most influx have been Friday 6 and Saturday 7. On Friday, the largest number of visitors met, with about 40,000 people, according to data provided by EiTB.

In addition to the journey between the tables, seven spaces have been given and Gerediaga Elkartea has appreciated their evolution, although he has pointed out that some areas have been more successful than others.

On Sunday, 8 December, the company Siadeco offered the results of the study commissioned by Gerediaga Elkartea. The results are based on the surveys conducted in the last edition of the Durango Fair. Questions were asked to 710 people over 15 years of age and 154 agents. The most significant data are found in the following lines:

- Books spend EUR 1 million, 60% of total spending.

- Half a million euros in disks, 28.3% of the total of the general bag.

- The visitor leaves in the fair an average of 49 euros and 28 euros outside the fair in trade and hospitality.

- The ones that spend the most are those between 36 and 45 years old.

- Men spend more money and women go to the Fair more.

- Throughout the year women buy more books in Basque than men.

- Women read more in Basque and Spanish.

- Half of the visitors take advantage of the Fair to buy gifts for Christmas.

- Half of the visitors say that, after the Fair, they buy a book.

- Until the fair arrives, two out of five visitors have not purchased a single book. Many others have not read it in Basque.

- The largest number of visitors is in proportion between Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa, and especially between Gipuzkoa.

- 92% are Basque, 5% are Basque speakers and 3% are Castilian or Spanish speakers.

- The reasons for the visitors to attend the fair are: to promote the Basque culture and the Basque culture; to enjoy the Basque cultural environment; and to know the products.

- The negative aspects of the fair: excess flow; little space for unknown creators; and difficulties to park the car and use public transport.

- Assessment of agents: The fair is a showcase, an ideal place for relations and a national meeting point.

- The negative aspects of the fair, according to the agents: the excessive price of the tables; the exclusion of some agents; and the accumulation of news in the short term.

- The average annual turnover at the Fair is 22%.
