SOS Racism Bizkaia, Mbolo Moye Dool and Baye Falla report that last Tuesday, 9 June, a group of ertzainas attacked a rationalized man in the CAV and Navarra. As you have explained, the events took place at 14:00 hours at the Marzana Pier in the Biscayan capital.

The Ertzainas asked the man for documentation, "as is often the case", according to the complainants, who have denied the facts. Health workers have reported that the man suffers from a mental illness and that he began to scream at the request of Ertzaintza agents. In this situation, four agents of the Ertzaintza swooped over the man and beat him in the face. They have documented the moment through a video recording:

“It was clear that the boy was not a threat in the presence of the police or anyone else. They could have dealt differently, but they have used violence,” says a witness to the aggression in the report note.

Whistle-blowers have stressed that among streamlined people, those suffering psychological distress are more likely to suffer such situations, even more so if possible. And they say that this is a consequence of institutional racism, which is often carried out through the police. “Historically, the stigma of dangerousness has been linked to both racialized people and people with mental disorders,” they point out.

The speakers made it quite clear: “Whatever the reason for this person’s identification, their situation of psychic vulnerability should have been taken into account.”

Police persecution, very present in the neighborhood

The reported aggression is not an isolated event in Bilbao La Vieja. According to reports this Thursday at noon, the Marzana Pier has been occupied by agents of the Ertzaintza, who have carried out the retaining of racialized people.
