The Housing Union AZET of the Old Part of Bilbao appeared on Saturday morning on San Francisco Street to denounce the facts and point out those responsible. In fact, on November 25, around 17:00, the Municipal Guard of Bilbao carried out the eviction on the 18th street. As reported by the SVDC, emptying took place violently and illegally. According to the explanations given, "a group of uniformed thugs launched the door of our colleague's house, by order of the City Council of Bilbao, which was identified and deposited in the red street".
The dismissed neighbor, a member of the union, has been expelled from the property owned by Blackstone. In this sense, Friday's dismissal is framed in the problem that large investors and vulture funds are generating in the neighborhood, where the "hen laying golden eggs" has been found. "For a few years we have been seeing more and more housing become the property of these subjects and, therefore, they leave more and more neighbors in the street. Just in the last few months, we know that at least three evictions have taken place in the San Francisco neighborhood, and that dozens of people have been expelled from their homes by vulture funds such as the Global Pantelaria or the Blackstone," they report.
It has been considered "the vulture that is buying our neighborhoods and profiting from our misery" as the first person responsible for domestication. However, they stress that the City of Bilbao is politically responsible for the events, being the dismissal as a result of the intervention of its police. The facts have been framed within the "war against the poor" carried out by the City Council of Bilbao, "specifically in the war against those in the most vulnerable situation", referring to young people in irregular situations. If his partner had not been a young Arab, the police have pointed out that he would act differently, without such security or impunity. "It was they who, seeing that what was before them was a young and migrant person, broke the laws to dismiss our partner, with the same violence as a Nazi crew. It was they who, without a court order, without open procedure, decided to throw the door into a violent and criminal kick." That said, the facts have been considered as institutional racism and the sign of police supremacy.
They closed the hearing demanding the Bilbao City Hall exit and an alternative to the neighbour who has been on the red street since Friday.
