SOS Racism Bizkaia reported in a press release that this is an alleged "racist police brutality". The aggression took place on 12 September in the San Francisco neighborhood of the Guipuzkoan capital. The young man, who tried to divert several people in the course of a discussion, was beaten by a police officer on one of the legs of the leg. According to the institution, when he left on foot from Hernani Street, several Local Police officers threw him to the ground and beat him in the head, legs and arms. In the attack, a collar and a mobile phone were also broken, according to the same source.

The young man asked the agents “what they did and why they treated him like this”, but from there he was arrested at the Miribilla police station. All of this, according to SOS Racism, occurred around 21:00 hours, but until 1:00 in the morning he was not taken to the hospital in Basurto. The side says he had face injuries and blows all over his body, especially on his left elbow, so they had to tie his arm.

Back to the police station, "amid the pain and terror that has caused what happened, he tried to commit suicide with the clothes he was wearing," the organization said in a statement. Municipal police officers intervened to, without clothes, leave her naked. At 7:00 in the morning, after being with a translator, he was released without handing over the arrest document, only the part of the injury hospital.

Daily attacks

SOS Racism has denounced the case of “police brutality of a racist nature”, “by the agents of the Bilbao Municipal Police”, as well as the “police violence” suffered by many “every day” racialized people. The organization places special emphasis on the militarization of the San Francisco neighborhood, where people living in it are "criminalized".

He assured that there was "institutional racism" in police protocols and added that the "irresponsibility" of not caring for a young person who had attempted suicide "violates" human rights: “We demand care for the dignity and integrity of all people.”
