National Police Arrests Four Members of the Bilbao Workers Self-Defense Network
  • This morning, the National Police arrested four members of the Bilbao Self-Defense Network (LAS), who have been transferred to police units. The public complaint made by LAS SS in the face of the labor dispute related to the cleaning company Limpia Arana can be at the center of the operation.

The National Police has come at 07:30 hours to the housing and job of the four young people of the SS. The four have been detained and transferred to the police station at Gordoniz Street in the Biscayan capital. According to LAS, it is not yet clear why they have been arrested, but it is likely that this is a labour dispute related to the cleaning company Limpieza Arana.

One of the detainees has been a worker of this company and the other three detainees are charged with participating in a complaint by the Ertzaintza for the mobilisations made by LAS to denounce the action of Limpieza Arana. An LAS LASA member has stressed to ARGIA that “the question is why the Spanish Police has now been involved.” As a result of the Ertzaintza complaint, the two arrested today will have to testify on Thursday.

The members of LAS LASA have indicated that, at noon, they have begun to declare the first arrest of eta.

“Arana cleanings, pay what you owe”

LAS members reported in December the situation of labor conflict in the company. The worker arrested today himself denounced the bad working conditions and the assaults suffered by the employer, including insults, extortion, lack of pay for his salary and improper dismissal.

In recent weeks, Limpieza Arana has denounced the "systematic exploitation" of the companies that collaborate with him and has called for the payment of the money they owe to the worker.
