The Bilbao Workers’ Self-Defence Network has reported that it has just won a labour dispute. As you have explained, two weeks ago the conflict began with a bar on Goienkale Street in the Old Part of the Basque capital. The employee of the company went to the network after suffering improper dismissal. In the words of the network, the dismissal left the worker in a situation of “total helplessness” in the context of the “crisis deepened by COVID-19”. In fact, although during the work the worker applied for the work contract on several occasions, he did not succeed and the lack of a contract has left him without the right to be declared unemployed or unemployed.

Following the open conflict between the worker and the Self-Defense Network, two complaints have been made to bar owners: the undue dismissal and the payment of other remuneration owed to the worker, such as holidays, and the extension of redundancy payments in the confinement. It considers that the implementation of the second claim “sets a precedent for future struggles”.

“With this new victory we stress the importance and effectiveness of class solidarity and autonomous organization with bourgeois institutions. Once again it has been shown that by collectivizing the struggles the victory is for all,” the reading network has ended.

This is not the first case in which the Bilbao Workers’ Self-Defence Network is winning. In June, they also emerged victorious from the conflict with a bar in Deusto.
