The eviction of the gaztetxe Etxarri of Bilbao is suspended for the moment
  • On Friday morning, attempts were made to evict the gaztetxe Etxarri II of Rekalde, which was scheduled for today. However, the judicial secretary has not come to the gaztetxe and, therefore, the process has been paralysed for the time being.

In the summer of 2014 they occupied the Etxarri Gaztetxea space with the objective of "giving collective response to the needs of the neighborhood". In November 2016, the City Council of Bilbao issued an order to close the gaztetxe, considering that this space "did not comply with the security measures". However, in March 2018 it was possible to "recover" the Gaztetxe from the locality of Biscay.

The eviction order had been received in early October, it was planned for today and this morning the Ertzaintza and several municipal agents have approached the area for eviction, according to sources from the gaztetxe.

Early in the morning, some gaztetxe came to show their support for the call made by the members of the gaztetxe. The members of Gaztetxe Etxarri have stated that, as the eviction order has not been communicated, they have managed to "stop eviction today". They added that they do not know what is going to happen in the next few hours and days.

Under the motto "Add forces, defend the Gaztetxe Etxarri", the organizers held a rally on Thursday at Moore Square.
