The plague caused by COVID-19 has had a great impact on the Bertso square. That is why the Bertsozale Elkartea Association has created the Plaza Biziberritzen initiative, with the aim of promoting programmes. More than 700 programmes have been lost in 2020, resulting in an economic loss of EUR 735,000. The festivals have been the ones that have best endured the situation and the actions of friends and free have had the most serious consequences: The decline was 58% and 86%, according to the Bertsozale Elkartea Association.
The three Bertso Egunak, in Hazparne, Iruñea and Getaria, are part of the commitment that Bertsozale Elkartea is making to strengthen the Bertso Eguna Square. Within the initiative, Eskolatik Plazara sessions have also been organized, with the aim of offering a place to young people who were unable to participate in the Basque School in 2020.
