Belarussian opposition leader flees to Lithuania

The Belarussian candidate for the presidency of Lithuania, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, announced this Tuesday the Foreign Minister, Linas Linkevicius. "Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is safe. It's in Lithuania," he wrote on Twitter.

In an interview with the national radio station LRT, Linkevicius said that Tikhanovskaya had arrived in Lithuania after being detained in Belarus for seven hours. The minister has not yet specified how and how long Tikhanovskaya has arrived in Vilnius and what he intends to do.

On Monday, Belarus candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya asked the Central Electoral Board (JEC) to cancel the voting results and re-scrutinize the votes or repeat the elections. He said that he saw no reason to be arrested and that he would not leave Belarus.

On Monday, the head of the State Security Committee (KGB), Valery Vakulchi, reported that the Belarusian security services had prevented the attempted murder. Disagreement with the outcome of the elections
