Bidarrai farmers overcome the threat of "speculation" and awarded land that was already on sale
  • The Tonpentxenea estate of Bidarrai was for sale in three lots, with a total area of 30 hectares. A "shopper of the coast" has struck him, but he has been bought by Safer to alleviate the threat of speculation and ensure its agricultural use, thanks to the fight of the ELB trade union and the Lurzaindia initiative.

Following the introduction of Safer, the farm may be exploited by the farmers of Bidarrai, as has previously been the case with other land. Last August, for example, in Sopitena, San Juan de Luz, Safer bought a property and then sold it to Lurzaindia. One of the farmers in the area will produce beer and work with organic grapes.

Vice President Lurzaindia and member of the ELB, Dominique Ameztoi, assured that both associations had pressed hard on both the buyer and notary and the "shadow" real estate agent. "We let them understand that we were going to do actions so that agriculture does not lose these lands," he explained in the Weekly Laborari.

According to Ameztoi, in an interview given to Euskal Irratia last April, farmers had the support of the People's House, following a piece of Tonpentxenea that was in the Official Section. It is a nine-hectare plot: A neighbor of Angelu wanted to buy it, and the mayor of Bidarrai himself explained the importance of protecting farmland. The potential buyer regressed.
